Encouraging healthy behaviors

When smartwatches were just entering the market, Basis led in advanced activity sensors and heart rate detection. They asked Smart Design to help them design and test interaction patterns for their second-gen device.

Their second-gen watch featured a much larger black and white capacitive touch display—with no hard keys. My team designed, prototyped and tested interaction patterns that were as simple and intuitive as the original—while allowing for the added functionality and features of a smart watch.

I really wanted Basis to have a unique element that played to their strength and answered a need. I designed the signature activity dial on the home screen to give a longer term view on activity levels executed with comprehensive simplicity and subtle motion.
